Where to Try Different Guns in DFW Before You Buy

Beginners often ask where they can test different handguns in Dallas-Fort Worth before committing to a purchase. At GRITR Range, we offer a wide selection of rental handguns, rifles, and pistol-caliber carbines. We want beginner shooters and future gun owners to have an opportunity to explore different platforms and see what actually feels right in their hands.

range rental pistols

A rental lineup that gives you real comparisons

Shooting different pistols side-by-side tells the real story. Maybe you want to feel the difference between a striker and a DA/SA gun. Maybe you are considering a subcompact for daily carry but unsure whether you will be comfortable training with it; or maybe you want a full-size pistol for home defense and are deciding between a metal frame or a polymer gun.

At our shooting range in DFW, you can try striker-fired pistols, DA/SA handguns, micro-compacts, full-size duty guns, competition pistols, compensated pistols, classics like SA-35 and 1911 and modern setups like Staccato 2011 and Sig Sauer FLUX.

That variety matters because firearm preference is often more personal than technical. Some shooters prefer the clean simplicity of a striker-fired pistol, while others immediately connect with the feel of a DA/SA handgun.

So you can compare between different designs or try to find the right fit within one platform. For instance, you can compare P365 vs P365 XL vs X-Macro to find what grip/slide length is more comfortable.

More than handguns

We also keep a strong mix of long guns, PCCs and 5.56 pistols. That includes platforms like the FN SCAR 16, DD M4 V7, CZ Scorpion, CZ Bren 5.56 pistol, IWI bullpup, HK MP5 in .22 LR, Henry lever gun, SIG MPX and SIG 516 G3, Kalashnikov KP-9, and more.

Try optics, suppressors, and upgraded setups too

A big part of “try before you buy” comes down to accessories. That’s why we equip many of our rentals with red dots, holographic sights, weapon lights, and suppressors.

This is useful because it gives visitors a more complete experience. If you are planning to buy later, you can get a better sense of how the gun behaves with real-world upgrades already on it. That can help answer real-world questions like whether you want an optic at all (on a carry pistol) or how a suppressor changes the feel of the gun.

For many first-time visitors, that removes a lot of uncertainty. Instead of imagining what a gun might be like with upgrades, you can test a more realistic version of the setup and make a better decision.

beginner shooting range in dfw

A beginner-friendly gun range in DFW

We don’t want to be just a place to shoot different guns; we want to make the experience comfortable for first timers who may not feel at home at a gun range yet.

Our mission is to help beginners learn to handle and shoot guns without feeling intimidated, while still allowing experienced shooters to enjoy the range.

First impressions in shooting sports are important. A new shooter who feels judged or rushed is less likely to enjoy the experience, but a new shooter who gets clear guidance and a safe environment is much more likely to leave with confidence and curiosity. GRITR appears designed to support the second outcome.

Every public bay at GRITR has a trained RSO or instructor present. That person watches the line, keeps things running safely, and can help guide your session if you need it.
